IMG_8465 * The first cathederal on the site was built around 400 and was replaced  by one consecrated in 1063 in the presence of William the Conqueror, the future King of England.

CRW_8468r2 * Like many of the great cathedrals of Europe, the main entrance is spectacular at nearly 100 feet high...

IMG_8472r * and containing the always interesting stained glass windows.

IMG_8464 * The front towers are from the 15th century and the cast-iron spire was unusual.  As with many cathedrals, they were 'added to' over time.

IMG_8479 * The wood timber faces of the houses were interesting and some date from Roman times.
